And Chair Public Issues

Military Suppport

This Committee provides help and support to our Military and Veterans.

Cell Phones for Soldiers:  We collected used and/or broken cell phones and accessories and sent to “Cell Phones for Soldiers.” These phones are recycled and minutes are added and distributed to our soldiers, which helps them keep in touch with their families at home.  To date we’ve donated more than 3,000 minutes to our military abroad.

Hundreds of hats have been knitted and crocheted for Wounded Warriors.  We have patterns for both knitted and crocheted hats and encourage members to help us with our project.

Every year we make and fill stockings for our soldiers as part of the NJ State Federation’s Boatsie Boxes project.  This year we had a speaker who was deployed to Afghanistan and was actually there when the stockings arrived and helped distribute them.  She lived with the troops and saw their daily routine.

We also provide crossword puzzles that are mounted on cardboard for our veterans at East Orange VA Hospital.  This past year we sent them approximately 3,000 puzzles

We sponsored a wreath for the “Wreaths Across America” in honor of a local veteran at the new Veterans Cemetery, Sparta.

Thank you for helping our military and veterans.

Public Issues

Encouraging members, family and friends to vote is part of the Public Issues, as well as informing members of public issue relevant to them.

This past year this chairman had the privilege of serving on a committee to form first aid coverage in one of our townships.

Several of our members worked at the polls on Election Day.
