Box Tops for Education

We collect/save box tops and deliver to the the Vernon schools several times a year.   They SCA uses the credits from the box tops to purchase items for the school/students.   Please save them - they are located on all type of products.  A full list is available at

Girl Scout Gold Award and Eagle Scout Award

Our club recognizes each Girl Scout Gold Award and Eagle Scout Award recipient with a check or gift card.   We attend the ceremonies, when possible, to personally present.

Girls Career Institute

Each year we sponsor a junior (some years two) from Vernon Township High School at GCI, usually held the first week of June at Douglass College.  She is able to experience college life during this time, eating in the cafeteria, sleeping in dorms, taking part in several seminars and lots of interacting with other girls from around the state. We also give the selected candidate $25.00 spending money. We will hear all about her experience at our September meeting.

Academic Improvement Awards

The Guidance Department at Lounsberry Hollow and Glen Meadow each select four students (2 boys and 2 girls each) for us to honor for their academic improvement.  We present four 5th grade students and four 8th grade students with a certificate and a check (or gift card).  A club member attends the awards assemblies in June to personally present them the award.

High School Senior Scholarships

Each year we present a scholarship(s) to a high school senior.  Applications are available at the high school for seniors to apply, with a due date in May.  Our scholarship is based on community service, not academic performance.   The scholarship committee reviews the applications and selects the recipient(s).  The awards are presented to the students at their Awards Assembly, usually held in early June.

Woman Over 35 Scholarships

This scholarship began in 2019.     It is intended to assist a woman over 35 returning to school or a certificate program.  Applications are available approximately the middle of October and have a return date in January.    The scholarship committee reviews all applicants and a recipient is chosen.

Letters to Santa

The end of November we place “Mailboxes” in our local post office for children to mail their letters to Santa.    We ask parents to include a return address.  The committee meets around December 17 and personally answers each letter (for Santa) and mail to the children so they receive prior to Christmas Day.  This is one of our favorite projects, making children happy!!
